Classical or Jazz Piano?!?
I am faced with the choice between taking classical piano or jazz piano private lessons. I would love to play showtunes on the piano, however I want to know which type of lesson would be better for this. I used to play violin a while ago, and self taught myself some basic melodies from musicals on the piano, however I have since forgotten how to read sheet music. Which form: classical or jazz, would be better for learning musical theatre show tunes? Or does it really not matter and most important is learning how to read the music?

Historically, the answer would be classical piano, as most modern music origins are from classical music. This definitely includes theatrical scores and major motion picture soundtracks.
You could try researching the great composers of modern theatre and movies, one of the largest data bases online for a search like this, would be Lastfm
