No idea how to start birth control?
Hey everyone...
I'm not sexually active, however i probably will be in the next two years or so. I've had very horrible problems with my periods and all that jazz...an eating disorder has caused my period to cease for the last seven months, but I need to start birth control. I would rather not take it in a pill form, so whats a form of contraception (not condoms, please..those are going to be used with birth control most likely) would be best for little side affects, no weight gain, help with skin etc.

There is the patch, you stick it either on your butt or on your shoulder. You replace it once a month. But this can cause an irritation where the patch was.
Then there is the ring. You insert it into your vagina, leave it there for 3 weeks, out for one week. Then you put in a new one. Most of the people I know that have tried this have loved it, and the guy never feels it, and it doesn't fall out on its own.
There is also the shot. You get a shot in your arm or hip once every 3 months. You won't get a period at all, and after a year your body will start thinking it is pregnant. I started having breast milk after a year, and it didn't go way until 3 years after I stopped the shot.
Then there is the IUD. This is a little tiny T shape thing that a doctor puts into your uterus. This prevents any eggs to attach to your uterus. It designed to work for 5 years. You will have short light period if at all. A doctor has to remove it after 5 years, but they normally only put this in married or committed relationships, and women who have already had a child (because it could cause sterility)
Then there is Norplant, a doctor inserts 5 vials into your arm under your skin. It works for 5 years, but causes all types of hormonal problems including sterility.
But to know what will be best for you, you should talk to your Gyno. You will need an exam to get any of these. You need to be open and honest with your doc and tell them your conserns. They will help you pick the perfect birth control for your body and life. Trust them to do that.
