The Hot Guide to Mallorca
Hot Restaurants
- Atlántic – A glimpse of the stars
For most of us, Manacor is just a "pass-through" town on the way to the beaches of the Northeast, to Cala Ratjada or Artà. On your next trip, make sure you have time for a break and head for the town centre. Manacor seems to be re-inventing itself rapidly, with new trendy restaurants, elegant shops and well known high street chains opening all the time. Make sure you stop for lunch or dinner at the Atlántic on the main square. It's owned by Tomeu Caldentey, the Michelin star chef of "Es Molí den Bou" and you can look forward to an excellent, fresh cuisine, with bags of Tomeu's trademark creativity. Good value-for-money, cool atmosphere and a hip crowd are guaranteed. Tip: Each Thursday night the motif is Japanese at the Atlántic, with a surprise dinner costing an unbelievably affordable 20 Euros.
Plaça Sa Bassa, 8, Manacor, Tel.: 971 845 860
- Espai 6 – Where Mallorcans dine
Situated at the end of the Ramblas, this restaurant is set in an old townhouse. Traditional elements combine beautifully with the modern furniture. The look and feel, together with modern tapas cuisine make this place a real favourite with the Palma in-crowd. There is a cool bar area for snacks, tapas and drinks, which is open from 8pm to 1am and a pleasant, spacious restaurant serving creative Spanish cuisine: tasty, fresh and beautifully presented.
Via Roma 6, Palma de Mallorca, Tel. +34 971 716 011
Hot Jazz
Mallorca is home to some excellent international Jazz musicians, which is why you will find many places to listen to the best of live Jazz around the island! Our favourites include:
- The Saratoga Hotel: Blue Jazz Club – Living the sunset
This Jazz Club offers the best views in town. Set on the top floor of the Saratoga Hotel, you can listen to the finest jazz played live every Thursday and Friday while enjoying spectacular views over the port and the town. The Club is elegant and airy, with white XXL sofas and armchairs, plus a fine selection of wines and spirits.
Paseo Mallorca, 6, Palma de Mallorca, Tel. +34 971 727 240 (live jazz every Thursday and Friday, 11:00 pm to 01:00 am
- Jazz Voyeur Club
The Jazz Voyeur Festival has already become an institution, bringing legends of the music industry to Mallorca for live concerts year after year. The Jazz Voyeur Club only opened it's doors last year in the Calle Apuntadores, close to Abaco, and has already gained an excellent reputation with Palmas discerning music lovers. Check out the up-coming acts on www.jazzvoyeurfestival.com and make sure you don't miss any of the legendary performances on offer!
Calle Apuntadores 5, Palma de Mallorca, La Lonja. Tel 971 720 780.
Hot Nights
The heat is on:
- La Marcha
La Marcha is the Spanish name for a real hot night out! Saturday night starts with a late dinner with friends and continues with some drinks at a fancy cocktail bar, until it's time to head for the Paseo Marítimo where the real party starts until dawn! An unmissable experience, but make sure you don't have any plans for Sunday and DEFINITELY leave your car at home!
If you're out for "La Marcha" it is best to dine at one of the numerous restaurants in the old town or La Lonja. Nice places for drinks (or "copas," if you prefer…) include Wineing in the Calle Apuntadores or a great Mojito and an international crowd at Bar Atlantico in Calle Sant Feliu, 12. After 1 or 2am in the morning, it's time for the Paseo Maritimo with numerous bars and large discotheques. The most famous discotheques are Tito's, BCM and Pacharitos at the very end, but there are numerous smaller places to dance the night away, such as Made in Brazil, which is very trndy.
Hot Adventures
If you get your kicks from action and adventure, the possibilities on Mallorca are endless. Diving, sailing or mountain biking are almost standard fare, compared to other exciting activities on offer.
- Cool Caves
Perhaps unexpectedly, the hottest adventures are canyoning and caving tours. Both provide sensory overload, thrills and a large portion of adrenalin – guaranteed! Canyoning combines descending, climbing and audacious jumps in canyons close to the Gorge Blau reservoir in the Tramuntana Mountains. There are tours for beginners and more experienced sportsmen, and any tour will be an exhausting, but unforgettable experience.
If you are opting for a caving adventure, be prepared to dive into the underworld. Porto Cristo is the starting place to explore underwater caves with wet suits, diving masks and a torch. Discover stalagmites and stalactites and swim through crystal clear subterranean lakes. You will soon forget the busy world outside. A fascinating experience, which will leave you breathless and longing for more!

- Riding into the Sunset
Is there anything more romantic than riding into the sunset on a beach, with the wind in your hair and the sound of the waves in your ears? The equestrian centre and Agroturismo Son Menut close to Felanitx offers full day adventure trips for experienced horse riders to the beautiful beaches of Mondragó or Es Trenc. Hipicaformentor also offers tours to the beach, as well as trails into the beautiful, unspoilt countryside of the North.

Hot Shops
For some of us it's never too hot for shopping and shopping can never be hot enough. Palma is THE place to shop, with the most up-to-date designers, boutiques and trends to discover.
Hot Couture
Xisco Caimari and Tolo Crespi have turned Mallorcan fashion into a synonym for quality, creativity and a modern, international approach. The second generation of Mallorcan designers are either already crouched in the starting blocks, or well in the race. The best places to get this unique Mallorcan look, which nobody can compete with at home, are found around the Calle Jaime III and the Ramblas.
Look out for:
- Cortina, Ca'n Sprer, 1, just off the Jaime III in a small side street. Beautiful fabrics and flowing cuts.
- Xisco Caimari, Calle Protectora, 7, also off Jaime III. Grand dresses for unique occasions.
- Tolo Crespi, just off the Ramblas, Calle Ca'n Danús, 1. Classic lines, feminine fashion made of linen, silk and velvet.
- José Miro, Ramblas 15. This creative young designer and close friend to Cortina has already won fans amongst Hollywood celebrities, attracted to his feminine and creative style.
Hot Pants
Lingerie goes with fashion and Palma has a wide selection of boutiques with the most attentive staff, international labels and surprisingly competitive prices. Watch out for the Spanish labels like Calzedonia or Intimissimi, which offer monthly changing collections in their high street shops. Best places to shop are the boutiques on Jaime III and the old town of Palma, where you will find anything from La Perla, Lacroix, Christies or Nolita Lace.
