Any knowledge of The Great Gatsby would be VERY helpful. thank you?
I need to write an essay on The Great Gatsby and I just don't even know where to start. Please if you have any suggestions as far as advice on the following essay topics just let me know. anything will be appreciated.
1) MUSIC: There are so many references to music and jazz in the text (song lyrics, Daisy's voice, the presence of jazz.) Why is there so much music?
2) EAST VS. WEST- Fitzgerald explores and compares the Midwest of Nick's youth with the East coast of his adulthood. Pros/Cons? What conclusions are drawn? Is one superior to the other? Where can an American go to live well?
Thank you so much! the more detail you can give the better, because I am literally screwed...any quotations or examples from the book are welcomed two. you can respond to either or both of the essay questions. I am not sure which I will ultimately choose, but I narrowed it down to those too.
thank you
Music: one of the reasons that this era was called "The Jazz Age" was that recorded music suddenly became available to the public in the form of cheaper, better quality records (platters vs cylinders) and, of course, radio. In the late 20s radio began to broadcast music virtually all day and all night as the medium grew from "dots and dashes" (wireless telegraph) to a voice and music driven format that we see today.
