The 7 Critical Elements of the Best guitar instructional
Figuring out which is the best guitar instructions for you can be really tough when you see all the choices that are available. The internet has really thrown the doors wide open to any and all publishers, and as a result the competition is fierce and the quality of some courses is amazing. With that said you need to exploit this opportunity for yourself and find a set of guitar lessons that work in with your needs and your budget.
Ensure that the option that you choose offers massive value, and teaches you worthwhile lessons that you can quickly start using. This is the absolute best advice I can give: obtain a straight forward guitar lesson course. The problem with too much theory is that you lose your ear for music and end up with a head full of useless techniques that you'll likely never use. Always strive to acquire working knowledge of the guitar and music; things that you can 'pull out of the bag' when it matters.
I've taught a lot of people in my 2 decades of playing and performing guitar. When I performed regularly I played in country, jazz, and covers bands. Studying great guitarists and saxophonists was one of the tricks that I picked up to learn what I call 'situational' riffs (i.e. things that make sense within a certain musical context). I was addicted to the guitar.
I don't play nearly as much anymore because I have other priorities and can't spare the time to get in there and practice like I should. Still, my level on the guitar is still pretty solid, you never really lose it because it becomes second nature or muscle memory as some experts put it.
During the time that I have played guitar, I have tried just about every angle possible learn tricks that will take my playing to the next level. I procured lots of different DVDs, videos, and other guitar courses that I could find. The problem was, that most of these guitar lessons went too far with teaching theory, and did not give the golden nuggets that I was looking for to transform my playing. As a result I would have these stupid techniques that I would be trying to pull off in public and they would sound pretty darn cheesy.
Even though I don't get on my guitar half as much as I know I should, I still make it a point to keep abreast of all the guitar instructional courses available. My general conclusion is that there is a lot of rubbish on the internet, and you have to be careful of what you purchase. After getting ripped off a couple times, I want to help you avoid the same pitfalls and give you some tips. Make sure that any guitar training package that you get contains the following:
1. Reasonable cost for the content of the guitar package
2. Practical techniques that make you play better in real life situations
3. Teachers who actively perform at a high level
4. Use backing tracks
5. The guitar lessons are geared towards your musical tastes
6. Guitar music clearly set out in the form of tablature or conventional music notation
7. A thriving internet based community site to help motivate you
I have only found two courses that fit the above criteria, and I think you should take a good look at them yourself :
a). Guitar Tricks - which is an online video based course, and in my opinion is the best guitar course overall
b). Learn & Master Guitar - another extraordinary guitar course. A little more expensive but includes 20 DVDs, 5 Jam track CDs, 186 page glossy work book.
