How often are lower frets used?
I want to buy bass, either the Laguna LB200 or the Squier Deluxe Active IV Jazz Bass
the Squier has 20 frets, and the Laguna has 24, so I was wondering if the lower frets really mattered, what are they used for mostly?
Also, the Squier has bass, treble, mid, blend, volume, and slap controls and costs $299.99
the Laguna has bass, treble, blend, and volume controls, and costs $199.99
which one sounds like the better deal, are the two extra controls on the Squier worth the extra $100 in your opinion? Do you think Squier is a good brand, or a cheap version of Fender?
I'm a guitar player...not a bass player, but in my opinion the higher frets on a bass aren't anything to be concerned over. Bass is about low notes...all the bass players I've ever worked with are playing much lower on the neck. Squier *is* a cheap Fender, but the Jazz Bass is patterned after the classic Fender Jazz bass. Twenty frets seems to have been enough to make the Fender Jazz Bass one of the most widely played bass guitars in the world.
I don't think it's fair to say the main difference between the guitars is a couple of extra controls. You really need to TRY them both out and see which one feels and sounds best to you. Personally, I'd never want a guitar with "active" pickups....more stuff to break, more batteries to replace....but that's just me. The standard (non-active) Squire Jazz bass is the same cost as the Laguna. I don't know anything about Laguna guitars. Squier IS a cheap Fender, but some of them are very well made. This is why I say you have to try them out for yourself. While you're in the store, try out some better guitars..like a real Fender just for comparison. Happy hunting
