Fender American Standard Jazz Bass, or Fender American Vintage ’62 Jazz Bass?
Some of my favourite bassists use a 62 jazz bass, and I do prefer the look of it, and the stacked knobs, but sadly i have to travel a long way to buy either of them so I can’t try them. Which out of the two in your experience do you think has an overall better tone? Which one is more versatile, and (this is a long shot), but which one would sound better with an Ashdown ABM 900 evo iii? Any additional information on either of these basses is much appreciated!

Why can't you try them in the shop? No matter...
The vintage '62 is, like, half again the price of the standard. It also has the better tone in my book, but then i've only played it once, through a Laney LV300 combo amp [it's waaaaaaaaaaaay out of my price range, but i had to have a go]. That said, i can't think of any reason it shouldn't still be richer sounding at 575W rather than 120, especially if you don't mind playing around with the EQ on the amp head to get the sound you're after.
Realistically, either's gonna sound good, anyway, even if the '62 will sound better. If money ain't an issue, sir, go for it...

By the way, have you considered the 50th Anniversary Jazz bass, if you've that sort of money to burn? [and if you don't mind it in red, which is all i can seem to find it in]. Not played it myself, though, but i can't see it sounding anything other than sublime.
