What size if trumpet mouthpiece would be best?
I just got braces recently and it's really affecting my range.The mouth piece that came with my trumpet(Eastman.) is unmarked and I believe it's either a 5c or 7 c.I need a mouthpiece that will help inprove my range..right now it's hard to get those high notes out.I'm also in the school jazz band and really need to get my range back.What size of mouthpiece would help with this issue?
You're going to just have to live with this situation until you get your braces off; there is some kind of brace guard you can get to put between your braces and the mouthpiece, to keep them from cutting your lips. I can't remember exactly the name of it but it is out there if you know how to use a search engine.
This would be a good time to work on tone!
However, it is entirely possible to play incredibly high without any pressure at all. Google Balanced Embouchure (Jeff Smiley) and read the web site. If you learn the techniques he teaches (there is a book, and it is designed for self-teaching) it can make a huge difference in the effort you use to play.
